Customer Case Study: Mercedes Sprinter MWB High Roof Van Racking

Adam Pagett swapped a cramped Peugeot Expert for a 2022 Mercedes Sprinter MWB high roof and had us design racking around his engineering work. He fitted it himself in about two hours.

Adam Pagett is the owner and director of Cumbria Access and Engineering Ltd, a machinery repair and engineering business in Workington. He swapped a Peugeot Expert for a 2022 Mercedes Sprinter MWB high roof and asked us to design racking around the way he works: a birch worktop with a vice, five sliding service cases and three drawers on the passenger side, and a long run of shelving with four more drawers on the driver's side. It turned up with the main units already built and he fitted it himself in about two hours.

The Problem: A Van That Was Far Too Small

Before switching to StowPro, Adam was running his van with a Peugeot Expert setup that just wasn't cutting it. "Lack of head room, not enough storage space, no work bench and no drawers," he explains. "Just far too small."

Off-the-shelf racking couldn't solve it either - nothing on the market offered the combination he needed: a proper work bench, drawers positioned exactly where he wanted them, and sliding service cases.

Adam shopped around before asking us for a custom van racking design. "I looked elsewhere and received quotes from other companies which were a lot more expensive for the same product that I got from StowPro," he says. "Ultimately it was price and the design being exactly as I wanted it."

He admits he went in a little unsure, having not seen much about the company beforehand, but came away impressed: "I was very, very happy and impressed and feel like I got a great product at a great price."

Delivery was another concern, based on past experience elsewhere. "9 times out of 10 with other companies, when there's a few weeks' lead time, the date usually never gets achieved, however this was bang on."

The Fit-Out: About Two Hours in a Sprinter MWB High Roof

With the main units pre-assembled, installation was straightforward. "Very easy. Took me roughly 2 hours to fit," Adam says. "Having the main bits already assembled saved a lot of time - a massive bonus to be included in the price. Only having to assemble one shelving unit was super easy, everything lined up and all fixtures and fittings are top quality."

When Something Went Wrong

A couple of parts were damaged in transit by the courier, and it became a chance to show what StowPro's service actually looks like. "Within a few minutes of sending a message I got a phone call from David, apologising even though it was completely out of his control, explaining how he'd rectify the issue. Next day a replacement part arrived and fitted with no issues. Top tier customer service from people that actually care."

How the Van Works Now: Worktop, Vice, Drawers and Cases

The difference in his day-to-day work has been significant. "Everything has a place, making finding and storing equipment a lot easier. The drawers and sorta cases are a game changer," Adam says. Dedicated drawers now hold spares, electrical consumables, and testing equipment, while hydraulic fittings are organised by type in the sliding service cases. "It makes life really easy finding what I need."

The workbench has added a new dimension to how he works on the road: "Having a workbench with a vice is brilliant and allows me to also do bench testing and repairs comfortably in the back of the van. Made a massive difference to how I work, now I have a van setup right, it makes life a lot easier."
